Fuel
& Other
Contamination
ESC has been evaluating contamination on properties since 1986.
Sources have included fuel tanks, manufacturing plants, agriculture,
automotive service shops, laboratories, pesticide applications,
and dry cleaners. The projects have been completed as a result of
fuel tank leaks and closures, spills, regulatory enforcement, regulatory
cleanup programs, and property transfers. For a discussion on assessments
related to property transfers, refer to the page on Environmental
Site Assessments.
 ESC
has completed over one-hundred and fifty closure and site assessments
of underground and above ground storage tank facilities, spills,
and other sources of contamination. Projects have included assessment
of soil with an organic vapor analyzer (OVA), plus sample collection
and laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater. Manual borings,
direct push borings, and drilled wells are used to obtain samples.
The results, which determine the presence and level of contamination,
are used to either close the site when it is clean, or establish
further assessment and remediation requirements when it is not.
When appropriate, ESC uses the results to coordinate source removals
to initially clean up the contamination. Further, ESC has completed a myriad of remedial action plans, bioremediation, natural attenuation
monitoring, and post-active remediation monitoring projects. These
are required and regulated by the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection (FDEP).
ESC has completed numerous assessments at dry cleaners. These have
been completed as screens to apply to the State cleanup program
or to assess the status of the contamination. ESC has also assessed
contamination on properties downstream of dry cleaners.
